Staff and trustees of third sector organisations in Powys will gain an understanding in how services currently delivered, or due to be delivered across Powys need to change in order to meet the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 and the Future Generations Act (2015).

 

This training is available on two dates and is being offered free of charge - Don't miss out and remember  'it's everyone's business'.

Outcomes for the day

1)    To increase staff’s knowledge and understanding of these two key Acts and the influence upon our work. We will explore the relationship between the law, impact, outcomes and practice.

2)    To increase staff’s knowledge of the likely effect upon the citizens of Powys in terms of impact and how key Statutory and Third Sector Organisations should be operating and will need to operate in the future.

3)    For staff to feel confident in challenging others when they observe/experience these Acts not being implemented correctly.

Who is this aimed at?

All staff and managers involved in the delivery of services which have a direct effect upon the citizens of Powys, from carers to transport providers!

Safeguarding with the Zipit App: 

The Zipit app has been created by Childline and available for iphone, android, blackberry  smart phones and ipad touch. It helps young people stay in control of flirty chat. If you are asked to send naked photos or chat gets too pushy the app allows you to send a range of photos with smart/ amusing comeback lines that help get the chat back in line. Helps young people stay safe and in control.

Funding Applications to Children in Need

PAVO has received feedback that Children in Need is tightening up significantly around safeguarding and their expectations of organisations who apply for funding. We are aware of an organisation that was turned down for funding because they had not had training (this included the Board) although they had policies and procedures in place for safeguarding.

If your are considering applying to Children in Need for funding, you are advised to check the Fund's guidance for applicants which sets out Children in Need's requirements, see: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/tv/pudsey/A-to-Z-advice.pdf The guidance includes an expectation that applicants will be able to demonstrate that they: "ensure all staff, volunteers and management committee members receive safeguarding children training which is relevant to their role and updated on a regular basis".

New Service for Young People

Runaway Helpline is here for young people before, during and after they run away. The helpline is open 24 hours a day and is always free and confidential. You don’t have to have credit on your phone to contact us.

Through Runaway Helpline we can:

·         Facilitate a 3 way call - Some young people may find it too daunting to directly contact the Police. Through 116 000 we are able to set up a three way call to enable first contact. Contact may be made to the Police, teacher, social worker, foster parent, family member or support worker (amongst others).

·         Pass a message home - We are able to pass a message home on behalf of the missing person on to a family member or caregiver.

·         1 to 1 chat – Through our online chat service young people can receive support without picking up the phone. They can use 1 to 1 chat discreetly and access the same support offered on the helpline.

·         Written guidance – Many young people wish to read about the ‘what ifs?’ about running away. Our website allows them to weigh up their options safely. http://www.runawayhelpline.org.uk

·         Aftercare - As well as our helpline, we have a service in Wales called Aftercare, which gives us the ability to provide additional support to families when the young person returns. The focus of Aftercare is to get to the root cause of the missing incident, to ensure that the young person is not put at further risk by becoming a repeat missing person. Families and professionals can both refer through 116 000 or aftercare@missingpeople.org.uk

LGBTQ Young People - Training

Training offered by Children in Wales.

Young LGBTQ people:  making things perfectly queer.

A one-day course

The training will explore LGBT issues and young people.  The process of coming out, issues for young people such as bullying, gender identity and sexuality.  How to support young people whether gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender or questioning young people.  It will deal with issues such as safeguarding, self-harm, substance misuse and Child Sexual Exploitation.  This will be conducted using a rights based approach.

Participants will:

Have an understanding LGBTQ issues

Gain ways of supporting LGBTQ young people

Gain knowledge on safeguarding LGBTQ young people

Gain practical skills in identifying young people who are vulnerable to Child Sexual Exploitation

Whether it’s waking up and instantly checking Twitter, sneakily sending photos of your dog filter face to your mates in class, or doing a final flick through Instagram before bed, you can’t deny that our generation live our lives online.

They might not admit it, but our parents don’t really get it. Yes, they send emails for work and log onto ‘The Facebook’ occasionally, but they didn’t grow up with the internet – they remember when Google was a new thing and YouTube was just for funny cat videos.

From 1 April 2017, the Education Workforce Council’s (EWC’s) registration fee will be subsidised* by the Welsh Government. Without the subsidies, the fees for each group would be £46.
*The subsidy is only available where there is a requirement to register with the EWC. N.B. All registration fee contributions are subject to tax relief.

Research on the Oganisational Development of Youth Organisations

In the context of our new project, Organizational Development of Youth Organizations (ODYO), CNVOS and its partners are conducting a research about the organizational development practices in organizations (from EU Member States) working with young people.

The main instrument for data collection will be an online survey, which is available at this link, until 10 March 2017.

If you represent an organization working with young people, we would appreciate a lot if will take 15 minutes to answer to our questions.

If you happen to know organizations who work with young people, please share with them this survey.

The results of the current research will be made public in a final report produced within the ODYO project, which is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The project is being developed and implemented by CSDF (Civil Society Development Foundation), CNVOS (Center for information service, co-operation and development of NGOs) and ENNA.

 We have launched a consultation on options for implementing the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Bill. 

 

The Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Bill will create a single, unified framework for supporting learners with additional learning needs. The current range of statutory and non-statutory learning plans will be replaced by individual development plans (IDPs). This will ensure that provision and rights are protected regardless of the severity or complexity of needs.
