Young reporters for the Environment

Calling all budding journalists

Keep Wales Tidy is thrilled to bring Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) to Wales.
Keep Wales Tidy is the national operator for the YRE Litter Less Campaign and can’t wait to hear from schools, colleges and youth organisations in Wales who are ready for a journalistic challenge. Each entry will produce a piece of investigative journalism about a local litter issue such as marine litter and share the results with their community and an international ‘sister’ organisation.

Joanna Friedli YRE Co-ordinator for Wales says;
This is a really exciting opportunity for students aged between 11-21 to get involved and raise awareness of the effect of litter and waste on the local environment whilst increasing their knowledge and practical skills in preventing and managing litter and waste. I’m looking forward to seeing original solutions to local litter issues and some innovative ways of reporting using digital skills to produce film and photography as well as written articles.”

Organisations should express interest with Keep Wales Tidy by 21 Nov yre@keepwalestidy.cymru and be ready to submit their entry in March 2018.

Lesley Jones, Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy, says;
Young Reporters for the Environment celebrates talented young people who express a passion for protecting our planet. We’re looking forward to involving them in our work to tackle litter issues, particularly in raising awareness of the devastating impact that marine litter has around the world.”

The YRE Litter Less Campaign aims to engage and educate children and young people on the issue of litter and encourage them to make positive choices. It is an international competition and Welsh national winners from within three categories and age groups will be considered for an international competition.
The Litter Less Campaign is a joint initiative between the Wrigley Company Foundation and FEE. It aims to reduce litter and affect long term behaviour change among youth around the world.
