Tackling Tomorrow: Event Thursday 11th February Angel Hotel Cardiff

You may already have seen some info regarding our upcoming event on Thursday 11th February at the Angel Hotel in Cardiff. And maybe you’ve already booked on or are planning too?

So, we are going to try, amongst other things to try and answer the question, “How can our young people be given a hopeful future?”
At a time when young people face numerous challenges, this one-day event offers an opportunity to explore the issues and answer important questions about the future of young people in Wales.
  • What do we need to get right as a sector?
  • How can we help young people to overcome barriers and fulfil their potential?
The event will include sessions on the role of young people in the economy; eradicating exclusion; the future of learning disability provision; welfare reform; homelessness provision for young care leavers; and more.
Join us on 11 February as we examine how we can work together to 'tackle tomorrow' and ensure that our future generations are given the opportunities to achieve their potential.
How? Just click on the link below and book on! If you can’t make it please share with your own network; thank you.

Llandrindod SOUP

Llandrindod SOUP is a regular community supper and micro-funding event, bringing people together to share a meal and raise funds for small, creative community projects which make Llandrindod a better place to live.
We are bringing the next soup event to you on Friday 4th March, 7:30pm at The Herb Garden. For a donation of £3.00, attendees will listen to pitches from four community projects and vote for their favourite, enjoy some great entertainment and of course, enjoy some delicious soup!
If you would like to be one of the presenters on the night, the deadline for pitch applications is Sunday 21st February. A 4 minute explanation about your group/idea/project (and how the money from SOUP will be used to help it) is all that stands in the way of your chance of taking away the entire evening's door money.
Our last event saw Rhys & Felicity of 'Popcorn People' take away £119 to purchase equipment to help get their brand new community benefitting popcorn business off the ground. Previous winners include the Thumbs Up Club to provide an outing for families with special needs and Play Radnor to consult on painting panels outside the AutoPalace.
For more information, join us on the Llandrindod SOUP Facebook page or email us soup@transitionllandrindod.org.uk.

FRESH - New family session

Brave EIP Winter Newsletter!

Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust Consultation Document

Please could you ask families to complete this survey to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service to help plan their services.

Feedback from children across Powys during 2015 raises their concerns that it takes a long time for ambulances to reach people in rural areas.

Do you/your families you work with have any views to input into this survey?

At Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, we are working to develop our Strategic Equality Plan ( SEP) 2016-2020. To help get this right, we need to know what you think about the objectives we have drafted.

The Strategic Equality Plan is really important for us, as we are working towards eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and promoting good relations between people.

This plan is required under the Equality Act 2010 which gives specific protection to people on the basis of their age, disability, gender reassignment, partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment

What do Powys People Need?

Public Sector services, including Powys County Council and Health Board, are looking for the best way to deliver services which people need and will make a difference to them.  This will then be put into a plan for the county.

3rd Sector organisations are perfectly placed to capture stories and case studies which will help to inform the planning process.

Could you let us know if your organisation has information that will help to inform the decisions around delivery of services.  At this stage it doesn't matter the format - we can sort that out.

The more evidence of need for children/young people we can feed through the better picture will be gained.  It will also help make sure all organisations, including your own, are delivering the services that are needed.

We look forward to hearing from you.

PAVO, along with partner agencies, is involved in the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) as we prepare for the development of a Well Being Plan for Powys.
The JSNA usually concentrates exclusively on population data. However, given the requirements of recent legislation (Social Services & Well Being / Future Generations etc), the group is needing to complement this with qualitative information from people / citizens / customers / service users / service providers etc.
The main thrust of this work is to identify need.
Do you or does your project/organisation have information from people / groups that identifies need? If so, would you please send it to me? It doesn't matter at this stage in what format you have the information. Once we know the scope & nature of the info, we can sort out its collation. As ever, we are asked to get the info to the JSNA group as early as possible in the new year. Therefore, if you were able to get back to me asap, that would be greatly appreciated.
Because this information will stregthen the evidence for need, it should also strengthen the case for well resourced services from the sector.

 How to find Broneirion
Broneirion is in Llandinam, between Newtown and Llanidloes just off the A470. Turn across the bridge with statue of David Davies & proceed along road approx 200 yards.
Nearest Train Station: Caersws, approx 3 miles from Broneirion has a railway station, with trains running to Aberystwyth/Pwlheli and BirminghamNewtown which is 8 miles from Broneirion also has a station.
Nearest Bus: Bus stops are situated on the A470, a short walk from Broneirion for local buses & a daily National Express coach service to/from London.

The Area
Broneirion, originally the home of David Davies the great Victorian entrepreneur, is situated on the side of a wooded valley overlooking the River Severn and the village of Llandinam. It makes a wonderful setting for the Grade 2 listed pale stone coloured House with its Welsh slate roof. Broneirion is surrounded by over four acres of very beautiful grounds, which look particularly lovely in the Spring when daffodils, rhododendrons and azaleas are in full bloom. The source of the Severn is only a few miles from Llandinam, and the Severn Way Walk passes just above Broneirion. The River Wye also starts from the area. Outdoor Centres are a short drive away, offering such activities as abseiling, sailing, kayaking, etc. Many visitor attractions are within easy travelling distance, as is the coast, nature reserves, historic castles and numerous places to visit and explore. The village of Llandinam offers a pub, church and chapel, a shop & post office selling local produce & groceries. Other shops, including a fish & chip shop, butchers & delicatessen are in nearby Caersws.

A report to assess progress and design policies to improve the outcomes for children and young people.

The Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Monitor for Wales was published for the first time in November 2008. A second edition was published in March 2011. This is the third edition.
The aim of the series is to provide a multi-dimensional picture of children and young people’s wellbeing (aged 0 to 25) in Wales using a variety of wellbeing indicators and other statistical and research sources. It comprises a key resource for those working on policy and programme development.
Previous editions have provided useful context to policy making relating to children and young people, such as child poverty and children’s rights, and have helped work on measuring children and young people’s wellbeing. The series has also served as a means of highlighting to the wider research community where information is currently missing.
Producing the Monitor is one of the initiatives that the Welsh Government has taken to fulfil its commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. For this reason, the structure of the Monitor is based on themes taken from the Welsh Government’s seven core aims for children and young people which are underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

2015 Edition

The aim of the 2015 edition was to produce an updated version of the 2011 Monitor, although without commissioning any bespoke research and focusing on producing shorter summaries of existing statistics and research. The new edition maintained the same thematic chapters as the last Monitor, as well as new introductory and concluding sections on recent policy developments, improvements in the measurement of child wellbeing and international comparisons.

HLF Youth Initiative Consultation

In November HLF’s Chair, Sir Peter Luff, announced we would be launching an exciting new youth initiative in 2016/17. Designed to bring a step-change in the way the heritage sector works with young people aged 11-25 outside schools, in the first instance we anticipate funding a small number of large scale demonstrator projects across the UK. We will award grants to consortia of organisations with a credible track record of working with young people and the ability to embed practice in the heritage sector.

Before we launch the initiative we would like to test our ideas with a small number of youth and heritage sector experts and we would be delighted if you could join us and our facilitator Ruth Clarke to share your perspectives and ideas.

We are running three workshops across the UK in January.

13 January 2016: London, 14.30 – 17.30, including networking time
NCVO office in Kings Cross: NCVO - Find us

18 January 2016: Edinburgh, 13.15 – 16.15, beginning with a networking lunch

20 January 2016Cardiff, 10.30 – 13.45, closing with lunch

We hope we will be able join us for one of these sessions.  Please RSVP to Diane: skills@hlf.org.uk by 06 January 2016 with the following information:

The session you would like to attend
Your name
Your job tile and organisation
Your contact details
Any access requirements
Any dietary requirements

We have a limited number of places, which will be filled on a first come, first served basis and would prefer one representative per organisation. If you think the workshops would be of interest to colleagues outside your organisation, please feel free to pass on their names in your reply.

Thank you and we hope to see you soon,
Jo
