·         Are they ready for a (well supported) challenging experience to leave their comfort zones, learn about themselves and others, push their boundaries and motivate them into further opportunities, here in Wales or further afield?

·         Can you support your young people in the preparation (especially fundraising, £150) and follow-up phases to support them to get the most out of their experiences?

Key Learning Outcomes: To be able to: § Understand a range of factors affecting a person’s culture: for example; nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, sexuality, age, class § Understand and reflect on own culture and cultural values § Recognise the importance of cultural factors in an individual’s priorities and preferred outcomes § Communicate openness to traditions and values that are different from one’s own § Be confident and skilled to assess needs and facilitate support plans that identify and meet people’s cultural outcomes

Aim:

For participants to be able to work confidently with adults at risk of Domestic abuse i.e. abuse from partners, relatives and household members; to feel confident to “Ask and Act” and work with people to create effective safety plans. The course will explore the complexities of issues of capacity and consent within the context of coercive control and best practice in person centred safeguarding work The course will cover the use of risk assessment tools such as DASH-RiC and SERAF and when information about an adult at risk must be shared regardless of the views of the person at risk. It will include awareness of harassment and hate crime and the mechanisms for reporting these crimes.

Free energy advice to community groups in Powys

Cwm Harry, Newtown-based environmental charity, are working with Welsh Government to help

and advice community groups to reduce their energy use and save money. All community groups

and third sector organisations in Powys are able to get free energy advice to help them save money

and reduce their energy bills. Cwm Harry can offer a detailed energy audit on a building, community

renewable project, water or waste saving initiative, all through support of the Resource Efficient

Wales project funded by Welsh Government.

Queens' Birthday Celebration Street Closures Applications Needed by 29th April

The deadline is fast approaching for applications for road closures for street parties to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday.  

Powys County Council is requesting that any groups who intend to hold a street party on a public highway and have not presently made an application to the council should do this in writing by no later than Friday 29 April. 

Cllr John Brunt, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "We have made a commitment to waive the normal fees for this service in recognition of the occasion. However, an assessment as to whether the closure can be granted will need to be made."

Views sought on the future of Powys libraries

Powys library users, interested residents, businesses and voluntary groups are being asked to give their views on how best the council and communities can continue to deliver library services in the future.

With savings of over £27m to be found over the next three years, the library service has been tasked with reducing their costs by £250,000 by April 2019.

The current proposal is that the six main libraries - Ystradgynlais, Brecon, Llandrindod, Machynlleth, Newtown and Welshpool – and the two mobile library services for North and South Powys form the cornerstone of the service. 

Ideas and views are being sought on how best to save 50% of the local running costs and continue to deliver services in the 11 towns that have branch libraries – Builth Wells, Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye, Knighton, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Llanidloes, Llanwrtyd Wells, Presteigne, Rhayader and Talgarth. 

Some meetings have taken place with town and community councils and other organisations who could contribute towards library running costs, co-locate their service within the current library building or offer the library a home in theirs. 

   

Library users, interested residents and other stakeholders are being asked to contribute to these discussions between 15^th April – 3^rd July either by completing an online or paper survey or attending a drop in session at their branch on the following dates.

Powys County Council on behalf of the Mid and West Wales Regional Programme Board is commencing the procurement of Independent Professional Advocacy services for the region of Powys, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire local authorities. As the lead authority on behalf of the region, the Council is seeking to engage with suitably qualified and experienced organisation(s) for the provision of Advocacy Services.

The Mid and West Wales Region is commissioning Independent Professional Advocacy Services for children and young people for whom there is a statutory entitlement.

The proposed service will cover the counties of:

Powys
Carmarthen
Ceredigion
Pembrokeshire

Running for 36 months, the contract is divided up into 5 lots:

The Integrated Training Brochure offers information and training relating to the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, information and sign posting to partnership organisations within Powys as well mapping training into a single training programme from April 2016 – March 2017.

The training continues to build on the adopted tier system to make courses more accessible for all staff, practitioners, carers, foster carers, adoptive parents and service users.
